The Rev. Tom Pumphrey is the Rector (pastor) of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Marietta, Georgia. He is a graduate of Cornell University and Virginia Theological Seminary. Tom served parishes in the Philadelphia area for nine years where he became known for his teaching and consulting in church leadership. He also developed numerous courses and resources for surveys of basic Christian teaching

Tom studied Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University, and worked for the Lincoln Electric Company for over twelve years in sales and product management. He managed a sales territory in St. Louis, Missouri and became a Product Manager in the company’s Automation Division at their headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2001, he entered Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, graduating with honors in 2004, and was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church that year.

He became the rector of St. Mark’s Church in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania until 2009. From 2009 to 2013 he was an Associate at St. David’s in Wayne, near Philadelphia, focusing primarily on Discipleship ministries. Tom became well known in the Diocese of Pennsylvania for his teaching and consulting in the area of church leadership. He was a regular speaker at the annual Diocesan Vestry Symposium and he led a popular six part series of classes on Leadership Development for the Church. In the parish, he focused on survey courses of basic Christian teaching, such as the basics of the Bible, the Creeds, and learning about the various Christian denominations and their histories. In 2013, Tom became the rector of the Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Marietta, Georgia. Tom is married and has two sons.
